Dr.TCM, BA(hon), R.Ac.
Melissa graduated from the five-year Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) program with honors, from Pacific Rim College in Victoria, BC. She began her Chinese Medicine studies at The Canadian College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. Her training has provided her with over 1050 hours of supervised clinical acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine experience. She has since practiced in collaborative multidisciplinary health clinics both in Victoria, BC and New Glasgow, Nova Scotia.
Prior to studying Chinese Medicine, Melissa completed a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in Psychology and a minor in Religious Studies from Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, NS, graduating with honors, magna cum laude. Seeking a career helping others, she considered pursuing social work, while simultaneously exploring natural holistic and energetic medicine to deal with chronic health issues. This personal experience with natural medicine and nutrition encouraged her to step outside the box for the next step on her career path. Making a leap of faith she moved from Nova Scotia to Victoria, BC to study Chinese Medicine. It wasn’t until in the midst of her studies that she realized how powerful and encompassing Traditional Chinese Medicine can be: covering issues that originally drew her to study psychology – anxiety, depression, PTSD.
Melissa has a special interest in women's health, mental health and digestion, but enjoys treating a range of health issues. She is passionate about the holistic approach of TCM and takes pride in customizing each unique treatment, employing acupuncture, cupping, gua sha, moxibustion, Chinese herbal medicine and food therapy. Being a perceptive acupuncture patient herself, Melissa has developed a gentle needling technique. Her intention is to help others live a pain-free and vibrant life.
