The best known tenant of Chinese Medicine

Acupuncture is the best known tenant of Chinese Medicine with some of the earliest gold and silver needles found in the tomb of Prince Liu Sheng who died around 200 B.C. Over 2,000 years later, acupuncture is thriving in the modern world.

Depending on where you live, physiotherapists, chiropractors, naturopaths, MDs and osteopaths utilize acupuncture. Some of these practitioners have less than 100 hours of training; this can treat pain. However, a practitioner educated in Chinese Medicine has between 1500 - 2000 hours of training which accesses a broad application of health issues including chronic disease, pain, internal medicine, fertility, rehabilitation and prevention.

How Does Acupuncture Work?

Fine threadlike needles are used with clear intention, precise technique, and accurate depth insertion to access the intricate network of energy pathways within our bodies. These pathways called meridians are like dynamic rivers connecting and communicating between all the systems in the body. Using specific points along these meridians initiate a unique message to the body and mind that can lead to pain relief, support, strengthening, relaxation, and mental and emotional clarity.

Each treatment is designed for an individual to support their particular nature. Two people with similar diagnosis or set of symptoms would have different treatment plans. Groups of points are selected to give the individual a succinct directive. Sessions will differ according to the physical, mental and emotional movements within us and how we interface with our changing outer environment.

The World Health Organization recognizes acupuncture as an effective remedy for many conditions. Acupuncture is covered under many extended health plans, WCB, retired RCMP and Veterans benefit packages.

Research continues to study the health aspects of acupuncture, but most people usually are convinced because they have a personal connection to someone who has benefited from it.
